In 2020, the City of Palmdale conducted a three part comprehensive study that gathered community input and provided guidance for future revitalization of the Melville J. Courson Park. Thanks to feedback from 332 park design surveys and 61 community meeting attendees, the final concept map was designed based off of the community's hard work and vision for this park. This project was selected to apply for the State of California State Park Program grant application, that was finalized and submitted in March 2021. In December 2021, the Melville J. Courson Park Revitalization project was awarded $4.15 million in grant funding through the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program.
Project will construct a new bandstand/stage, challenge course, fitness zone with equipment, plaza/gathering space, decomposed granite walking/running path with exercise stations, group picnic pavilion with shade, playground, therapeutic/mediation garden, mural, restroom building, and maintenance storage building with fencing. Construct individual picnic areas, walkways, public art, fencing, and landscaping and lighting throughout the park. Renovate existing parking lot.
