Late 2024
5100 E Avenue S, Palmdale, CA 93552. Located next to Yellen Learning Center.
The Sam Yellen Park Phase I opened in 2017 and included many amenities for the public's enjoyment, while the eastern 12.43 acres of the park were left undeveloped to accommodate future expansion. The Sam Yellen Park Phase II Project will fully develop the park site, completing all 24.43 acres. The awarded contractor will begin construction in the spring of 2023 and will take approximately 18 months, with completion in the fall of 2024. The project will be funded through Park Development, Measure A, and Measure AV funds.
In 2019, a series of community park design meetings and surveys were conducted to hear the voices of the community. Thanks to feedback from 96 park design surveys and 157 community meeting attendees, the final concept map was designed based on the community's hard work and vision for this park. The Sam Yellen Park, Phase II project agreement was approved by the City Council at the Febuary 2023 council meeting, with R.C. Becker and Son, Inc. selected for construction of the park for $17,530,163 and with KTUA being the park architect. The City of Palmdale, council members, county, and state officials will gather to celebrate the groundbreaking of Sam Yellen Park, Phase II.
Located on East Ave. S at 50th St. East, the Sam Yellen Park Phase II Project will feature a gathering plaza with a 1,888 SF community room, restrooms, and an additional prefabricated restroom. Phase II of the project will provide plenty of shaded picnic areas with tables, various plantings for both phase I and phase II of the park, illuminated pedestrian paths, natural grass, artificial turfs, (7) futsal courts, (7) unique fitness stations, and an expanded playground area, with play structures designed for children ages 1 to 5 years. Additionally, a roundabout entry, accessible from Ave. S, will connect to the existing parking lot and will provide a convenient drop-off zone, as well as a new parking lot accessible from Hillcrest Drive.
