Towed Vehicle Release Information

A $93 Tow Release Fee can be paid at the following locations:

In addition to the vehicle registered owner present, you must present one of the documents from each category to release the vehicle:

Vehicle Documents

  1. Current Registration Card or;
  2. Current Report Of Deposit Of Fees and a moving permit or;
  3. Current title (pink slip) showing current registration

Registered Owner with a valid United States issued form of identification

  1. Valid California ID card or driver license or;
  2. Current US active duty or retired military or military dependent ID or;
  3. Current US passport or;
  4. US Social Security Card or;
  5. A United States issued birth certificate or;
  6. Current US Resident Alien Card

Towed Vehicle Release Instructions and Address (PDF)

Your vehicle can be towed for the following violations, but not limited to:

  • Blocking a driveway or fire hydrant [CVC 22651(d)(e)]
  • No visible vehicle identification [CVC 22651(j)]
  • Storing your vehicle for more than 72 hours [22651(k)]
  • 5 or more delinquent parking tickets [CVC 22651(i)]
  • Traffic hazard [CVC 22651(b)]
  • Expired registration six months or more [CVC 22651(o)(1)]
  • Posted Sign: Tow-Away, Valet Zone, or Bus Zone [CVC 22651(n)]
  • Immobilized vehicles parked on the street; for example, vehicle lacks tires, no engine, or no windshield. [CVC 22669(d)]
